The TAFE Technical Operators Centre (TTOC) is Australia’s only vocational training facility designed specifically for people seeking a career in television and broadcast production.
Our graduates operate cameras, capture sound, provide replays and effects, manage communications and administer the transmissions that deliver audiences their favourite television programs.
The TTOC has a unique focus on practical workshops and on-the-job experience, recognising broadcast operational training is not suited to classroom sessions in isolation of “real world” experience. Universities and TAFE provide many students with academic and practical knowledge each year. TTOC recognises that graduates need specific on-the-job training to gain employment in industry. The TTOC provides that experience in a fast track form.
The core objectives of the TTOC are:
• Replenish the broadcast industry with a new generation of skilled, technical operators in a timely fashion
• Provide opportunities for technical operators to selectively enhance their skills and adapt to technologies
• Maintain a database of student skills and competencies and provide career matching opportunities
With the new improved course format developed with TAFE NSW - Northern Sydney Institute, a student can spend as much as one year or just one month developing their skills in technical operations. The workshop simulation approach together with infield experience ensures each graduate is job ready.
The Centre offers the only accredited advanced training course within the industry.
The TTOC provides high quality technical training for a range of specialised roles including technical managers, camera operators, audio and communication technicians and broadcast engineers.
Based at TAFE NSW - North Sydney campus, TTOC also aims to assist more than 1,400 established technical operators by providing them ongoing skills development courses and comprehensive training in new digital technologies.
