Interested in working in the fast paced, dynamic television industry?

This is the course that begins your journey! It is designed to give TAFE & university graduates the skills to enter an outside broadcast (OB) or studio environment.

 

What will I study?

bnr_opensq2Trainees will be introduced to the role and function of the facilities provider, the current broadcast industry structure and the acquisition, production and distribution of ‘live’ or recorded broadcast content in Australia. In workshop mode, you will work on the inventory management and maintenance of standard definition outside broadcast vans, flyaway kits and the operation and installation of key equipment within a mobile studio outside broadcast van environment.

 

What experience will I get?

Once completed you will have acquired working knowledge on:

• Grip truck operation
• Rigging an OB
• Staging for studio
• OB cable and cabling
• OH&S for the OB unit, crew and public
• Basic vision signal flow
• Introduction to power and generation
• Portable Outside Broadcast (POB) equipment installation
• Video Tape Recorder (VTR) operation
• Camera Control Unit (CCU) Introduction

 

What kind of job can I expect?

The successful trainee in Broadcast Operations - Intermediate will be eligible to apply for roles like cablehand for rigging and derigging, camera assistant and staging hand.

 

What are the entry requirements?

You should either:

1. Hold a University degree or TAFE Certificate 4 in a relevant subject area; or,
2. Have 2 years experience with referees.

 

How often do courses run?

This course runs for 20 days and includes workshop simulation and infield experience. The courses start in March 2010 and will run frequently with the last intake for 2010 in November.

 

What will it cost?

The cost of this specialised course is $950.
